EXCELLENTVerified Charming. Lovely service, delicious food. What you would expect from an upper-class area. Me and my father have come here multiple times. So lovely and charming. I would expect this kind of service and food to be typical of an upper-end area. I'm a pretty selective eater, but their soup of the day, no matter what it's been, has just been gorgeous. The staff are always lovely. The food always comes quickly, the atmosphere is wonderful. I don't know why me and my father haven't come here in a long while, but we must come again soon. I also took my cousin here too, and she loved it also. I was afraid that during the pandemic that this place would close. So glad it survived! Also, I love that they always seem to remember my order, no matter how long it's been since I last visited.Posted onVerified Old looking modern cafe Very nice rustic cafe with traditional breakfasts along with its own dishes. It looks small but had plenty of room the morning I went. Food was nice with good granary bread and proper sausages, bacon and poached eggs, tea can be served in a pot by request. Leaving Thurlestone on our way home to Swindon, googled the best place to go for brekkie, stopped by this beaut of a cafe, proper breakfast, thick toast and bacon, proper sausages, hit the spot! Tom looked after us very well, highly recommended! (I'd say booking is advisable, however we were able to grab a table x2 on a Saturday morning luckily!)Posted onVerified Cozy warm place, great for lunch The Bakehouse was a really cozy place deceptively small from the outside but as you go inside there’s a narrow corridor that leads to the back and this is really spacious and warm. I liked that it was a very dog friendly place. The staff are very courteous and kind. The food was excellent, very large portions similar to what you would find in the US. I ordered a mezza platter, with fresh crunchy salads and falafel‘s. Devon red apple cider is sweet and apparently a popular beverage here. We were there on the hottest day of the year, but there were no windows open and no fans and we really did bake! Would recommend the beef burger and chicken salad - delish!Posted onVerified Disappointed Have been to the Bakehouse before and had some lovely meals which are usually to a high standard….yesterday my partner had bubble and squeak which was brown ,mushy and oily . Poached eggs were hard not runny and my hash browns weren’t brown at all ,just slightly cooked and oily .A shame because it wasn’t busy (Sunday 11 am ) . Lucky I popped in and asked if they had a table as there is a lot more seating to the back in a bright and airy space with a lovely fireplace and bookshelf which kept my little one entertained. Dog friendly which is always a bonus and I cannot fault the breakfast, it was delicious.
